Biography

Anne Taormina is the Head of the Department of Mathematics at King's College London, where she is a Professor of Mathematical and Theoretical Particle Physics. She completed her undergraduate degree in Mathematics and earned her PhD in Theoretical Particle Physics at Mons University in Belgium. Following this, Anne undertook postdoctoral research at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, and later held the Enrico Fermi Fellowship at the University of Chicago, as well as securing an SERC Advanced Fellowship at Durham University. She joined the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Durham University in 2000 and was promoted to Professor of Mathematics in 2006. From January 2014 to December 2018, she served as the first female Head of the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Durham. In September 2024, she transitioned to King’s College London, where she continues her research and teaching. Anne is a member of the Institute of Physics and the London Mathematical Society, representing the latter on its Council from 2018 to 2024.
