Biography

Anne Trefethen is a Professor of Scientific Computing at the University of Oxford and has served as Pro-Vice-Chancellor. She co-directed the new Institute for the Future of Computing alongside Professor Bill Roscoe and is part of the James Martin 21st Century School. Before joining Oxford, Anne was the Director of the UK e-Science Core Programme and served as its Deputy Director for four years. The Core Programme was focused on addressing generic issues related to e-Science applications, including grid infrastructure development and appropriate middleware infrastructure in collaboration with industry partners in the UK. With over 20 years of experience in both industry and academia, her focus includes numerical algorithms, software, and high-performance computing. Prior to her role at Oxford, she held the position of VP for research and development at NAG Ltd, where she developed a range of scientific, statistical, and high-performance libraries. Additionally, she was the Associate Director of Scientific Computational Support at the Cornell Theory Center and a former research scientist at the Theory Centre of Thinking Machines Corporation. Her research interests encompass the creation of complex computing systems, high-level languages, multi-touch technology, and energy-aware algorithms in extreme computing.
