Biography

Anne Vanhoestenberghe is an Honorary Associate Professor at University College London, specializing in Active Implantable Medical Device (AIMD) technology. With over 20 years at UCL's Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering, she has directed the MAISI national facility, which focuses on manufacturing active implants and surgical instruments. Vanhoestenberghe is a co-founder of the Aspire Centre for Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology (CREATe) and has previously chaired the UK chapter of the International Microelectronics Assembly and Packaging Society (IMAPS). Her educational background includes a PhD from the University of London obtained in 2008 and engineering training at Universite Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium and Eindhoven in the Netherlands. She has held positions in Germany at IMTEK, University of Freiburg, and in Australia at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. Her research is primarily focused on developing new AIMD technologies, with particular attention to overcoming the barriers to effective research translation, design, manufacture, and compliance with quality management and regulatory affairs.
