Biography

Annelies Cazemier is a lecturer in Ancient Greek History at the University of Southampton. Her research interests encompass the Ancient Greek world, Hellenistic history, and the rise of Rome, with a particular focus on Greek religion and its religious sites, as well as networks within the Antigonid Macedon. She is the co-director of the Antigonid Network, which connects over 40 scholars studying the ruling dynasty of Macedon after the death of Alexander the Great. Her current project involves a book on Greek sanctuaries and their significance during the rise of Rome, exploring the interactions between Greeks, Romans, and Hellenistic rulers over centuries. Cazemier has also contributed to international outreach in her department as an acting Internationalisation and Study Abroad Coordinator, and has experience teaching Ancient History with a multidisciplinary approach within the School of Humanities. She completed her degrees in Ancient Cultures at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and a DPhil in Ancient History at the University of Oxford. Previously, she held a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Denmark before returning to the UK to teach at Somerville and Worcester Colleges in Oxford.
