Dr. Annemie Janssen

Biography

I am an environmentally passionate scientist with diverse experiences in marine ecology, conservation, and environmental management. My professional journey encompasses unique opportunities to engage in dialogue with scientists, governments, business leaders, local communities, and higher authorities such as the EU Commission and UNESCO. Academically trained in ecological fields, I develop skills to tackle complex environmental challenges and conduct impactful research, including topics like deep-sea shark physiology and marine mammal conservation. My PhD project focuses on 'Physiological Insights into Kelp Resilience and Adaptation to Environmental Stressors.' This research endeavors to understand the effects of rising sea temperatures and contamination from coastal development on marine ecosystems. Through a combination of field-based research and mesocosm experiments, I aim to create resilient underwater ecosystems that can benefit society and investigate kelp as a nature-based solution for clean waters.
