Biography

Annemiek Prins is a notable urban ethnographer with a rich academic background in anthropology, development geography, and mobility studies. Her research primarily focuses on the themes of informal transport, the unequal distribution of mobility, and the related social infrastructures. She completed her PhD project exploring cycle-rickshaw mobilities and the impact of infrastructural mega-projects in Dhaka, Bangladesh, which delved into the legacy of colonial modernity and its continuing influence on labor relations and urban mobility landscapes. Currently, she holds a postdoctoral position in the COMMON_ACCESS research project, which investigates how suburban and rural communities in the Netherlands are seeking to (re)claim common goods amidst the processes of privatization and the commercialization of welfare state retrenchment. In addition to her research, she serves as an editor for the anthropological journal Etnofoor, contributing to the academic discourse in her fields of expertise.
