Annemieke Kooijman is an Associate Professor at the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics at the University of Amsterdam. Her research focuses on the availability of plant nutrients, particularly nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), and how these nutrients affect plant growth and biodiversity in various ecosystems, including (semi-)natural ecosystems, coastal dunes, alkaline peatlands, and temperate forests. She investigates the natural changes in nutrient availability along landscape gradients and the impacts of environmental stress factors such as high atmospheric nitrogen deposition and eutrophication of surface waters. Kooijman actively participates in nature management initiatives aimed at enhancing resilience in nutrient availability to support biodiversity. In addition to her research, she is involved in teaching at both the Bachelor's and Master's levels. She teaches courses on World Ecosystems and Landscapes of the Netherlands at the BSc level, and is involved in Integrated Coastal Dune Management and Biogeochemical cycles at the MSc level. Kooijman also supervises BSc and MSc thesis projects, providing guidance and support to students in their academic pursuits.
