Annett Körner developed research expertise as a psychologist and psychotherapist in the areas of personality assessment, interpersonal functioning, health, and relationship schemas. After moving to Canada, she headed the psycho-dermatological service at the University of Freiburg, providing psychological assessment, diagnosis, crisis intervention, and short-term psychotherapeutic treatment for patients at the Department of Dermatology. There, she educated physicians and nurses on the psychological aspects of dermatological conditions to better adapt interventions for patients. Her specialization includes psychosocial oncology interventions that facilitate health behaviors among individuals diagnosed with skin cancer. In 2008, she was invited to provide expert advice to the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer, focusing on cancer prevention, enhancing the quality of life, and decreasing cancer mortality. At the Jewish General Hospital, she conducted research on “Interactive Education & Patient” examining the care trajectory for melanoma patients from diagnosis through treatment. In 2011, Annett became a mentor in the Psychosocial Oncology Research Training program that connects top psychosocial oncology researchers across Canada. Her Health Psychology Research Group is currently evaluating the efficacy of a coping intervention program for cancer survivors through a randomized controlled trial.
