Biography

Annette Stokes is a senior Wonguthqa, Ngadju, and Mirning woman from the Goldfields region of Australia. She spent her early life learning about the language and culture of her people. With a background in early childhood education, Annette also completed training as an Aboriginal health worker. Her involvement in major health research projects in the Goldfields has significantly contributed to medicine, earning her recognition in the field. She was awarded the Fiona Stanley Medal in 2005 and made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2017 for her contributions. A gifted musician and artist, Annette combines her talents as the chief investigator of the Western Desert Kidney Health Project, actively participating in research aimed at improving health outcomes for her community.
