Biography

Annie Lau leads the Consumer Informatics stream at the Centre for Health Informatics, Australian Institute of Health Innovation. She has established an active and productive consumer informatics research program in Australia, focusing on innovative approaches to enhance consumer health and patient engagement through digital technology. Her expertise is recognized nationally and internationally in the field of consumer digital health. Dr. Lau's research interests encompass digital health, consumer informatics, and patient engagement, involving the use of technology to understand the 'work' of patients and consumers in healthcare, designing and evaluating digital health interventions, and analyzing consumer behaviors using informatics and computational techniques. Notably, her research on consumer eHealth systems has led to the launch of a startup in Silicon Valley in 2015, and she has received numerous accolades, including the NSW Health Early-Mid Career Fellowship and the 2016 Women Research Citation Awards in Health Informatics. Additionally, she is recognized for her significant contributions to public discourse and her involvement in several high-profile projects aimed at enhancing patient experience and independent living through technology.
