Annika Gärdén is a Doctoral student at Umeå University, working in Chinmay Dwibedi’s research group. Her academic journey began with a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering Biotechnology from Umeå University, where she focused on bioinformatic methods and completed her thesis investigating time-scaled phylogenies in the Laura Carrol lab at the Department of Clinical Microbiology. As a PhD student, Annika is currently studying the gut microbiota in children during infancy, investigating the roles of bacteria, viruses, and archaea from a strain-level perspective. Her research uses modeling methods to describe how the members of the gut microbiota interact and change over time.
