Biography

Annika van Hummel completed her PhD focused on S100 proteins in osteoarthritis at the University of Sydney in 2014. Following her doctoral research, she joined the Dementia Research Unit at the University of New South Wales, where she worked as a postdoctoral researcher with Professor Lars Ittner. In December 2018, she transitioned to Macquarie University as part of the new Dementia Research Centre. Her research interests have centered on the use of genetically modified mouse models to study neurodegenerative diseases, including Motor Neuron Disease, Frontotemporal Dementia, and Alzheimer's Disease. Through her work, she aims to understand the underlying cellular mechanisms of these conditions and explore innovative treatment options.
