Biography

Annisa Sabrina Hartoto is a researcher specializing in women's collective action and development with over 10 years of experience working on development programs in Indonesia. She is currently completing her PhD in Anthropology and Development Studies at the University of Melbourne, focusing on the intersections of gender, power, and resistance. Her research examines civil society organizations that shape women's organizing and strategic actions in negotiating land conflicts in Indonesia, which ultimately leads to transformations in state-society relationships. In 2019, Annisa was involved in research projects focused on the durability and resilience of women's empowerment interventions and served as the lead researcher under Associate Professor Rachael Diprose. Her research also includes volunteering to establish sustainability standards that drive broad transformative changes in agricultural commodity production, where she worked with Associate Professor Kate Macdonald to investigate sustainability initiatives in the cocoa and coffee sectors in Indonesia. She has played a central role in editing and co-writing the analysis for the edited volume entitled 'Forging Pathways: Gender-Inclusive Development in Rural Indonesia: Case Studies of Women’s Collective Action that Influence Village Law Implementation'.
