Dr. Anoop Sarkar

Biography

Anoop Sarkar is a Professor in the School of Computing Science at Simon Fraser University. He leads the Natural Language Lab and has made significant contributions to the field of Multilingual Natural Language Processing. His research focuses on various aspects of natural language understanding, machine learning, and information visualization. He has taught numerous courses, including Natural Language Processing, Advanced Natural Language Processing, and Compilers. Sarkar's work is characterized by its application of machine learning to language tasks and by advancing methods for language processing. He has published widely, with notable works involving entity linking and cognate alignment, and has been actively involved in research grants including NSERC and Google Faculty Research Awards. He has served in various roles such as area chair and tutorial co-chair at prominent conferences. His commitment to teaching and mentorship is reflected in the success of his students, including numerous completed PhDs and MSc theses.
