Dr. Anshuman Swain

Biography

Anshuman Swain is an Assistant Professor and Assistant Curator at the University of Michigan's Museum of Paleontology, focusing on the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. He obtained his Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Maryland in 2022, as well as a B.Sc. in Research from the Indian Institute of Science in 2017. His research interests center on understanding abiotic and biotic interactions and their structures across various ecological systems over spatiotemporal scales. Anshuman employs a combination of comparative and trait-based approaches, along with ecological and paleontological fieldwork, to explore significant research questions about community distributions in response to global change and the role of eco-evolutionary histories in shaping ecological interactions. His work includes studying plants, insects, and microbial community ecology, and he aims to advance biodiversity informatics. Anshuman is looking to mentor new graduate students and postdocs in his lab, starting in Fall 2025.
