Dr. Anthony Bain joined the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Windsor in the summer of 2018. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia and holds both M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees from the University of Ottawa. Prior to joining Windsor, Dr. Bain completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Colorado, Boulder, focusing on integrative vascular biology. His current research encompasses various aspects of human cardiovascular and cerebrovascular function in health and disease, particularly in relation to vascular endothelial function during extreme environmental conditions. Dr. Bain's research aims to partition the mechanisms responsible for vascular endothelial dysfunction, which can lead to cardio-cerebral vascular events, a leading cause of global mortality. His work also examines how the peripheral and cerebral vasculature adapts to extreme environmental stressors, such as heat stress and hypoxemia. He has conducted studies in high-altitude natives and professional breath-hold divers.
