Anthony Bonner was born in London, England, and raised in Ontario, Canada. He earned his B.Sc. in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Toronto and worked in signal processing and underwater acoustics at the Defence Research Establishment Atlantic in Nova Scotia, Canada. He obtained his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from Rutgers University in 1990 and 1991, respectively. He has served as a post-doctoral fellow at INRIA-Rocquencourt in France and as an assistant professor of computer science at Indiana University, Bloomington since 1991. Currently, he is a faculty member at the University of Toronto, where he holds the position of associate professor in the Department of Computer Science and is a member of the Collaborative Graduate Program in Genome Biology and Bioinformatics. In 1999, he was a visiting professor in the Department of Computer and Information Science at the University of Pennsylvania.
