Biography

Anthony Bak Buccitelli is the Interim Assistant Dean for Graduate Programs and an Associate Professor in American Studies and Communication at Penn State University. He holds a Ph.D. in American New England Studies from Boston University and an M.A. in Folklore from the University of California, Berkeley. Currently, he is the Director of the Pennsylvania Center for Folklore and co-editor of the book series New Directions in the Study of Everyday Life, Past and Present, published by Berghahn Books. His previous roles include chair and program-in-charge of the American Studies program at Penn State, and editor of the quarterly journal Western Folklore from 2017 to 2022. His research focuses on vernacular culture, communication, memory, narrative, space and place, and race and ethnicity. He is the author of the book "City Neighborhoods: Memory, Folklore, Ethnic Place" published by the University of Wisconsin Press, and has edited volumes exploring race, ethnicity, and folklore in the digital age. Buccitelli has published more than a dozen articles and book chapters in notable academic journals and publications.
