Professor Bull’s research focuses on the basic mechanics of joints, including the mechanics of tissues and the entire musculoskeletal system, and the application of this knowledge in developing technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies and performance parameters. His applied research encompasses Sport Biomechanics, with a specific emphasis on Injury Biomechanics related to explosive forces, as well as Biomechanics of Ageing and Osteoarthritis. Professor Bull also leads the Centre for Blast Injury Studies, enhancing injury mitigation strategies and advancing treatments to improve rehabilitation and recovery to augment lifelong health quality for victims of blast injuries. He serves as the Director of the Musculoskeletal Medical Engineering Centre funded by the Wellcome Trust and EPSRC. His extensive research contributions also delve into orthopaedic implant design and surgical interventions pertaining to lower and upper limb biomechanics as well as aspects related to ageing.
