Dr. Anthony Dart

Biography

Professor Anthony Dart is a clinician specializing in lipid disorders. He completed his undergraduate and early postgraduate training at the University of Oxford, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Physiology and a Doctor of Philosophy in Neurophysiology, before completing his medical studies (BM BCh). His internships were in Oxford and Bath, followed by basic physician training in South Wales, with posts at Morriston Hospital, Swansea, and Llandough Hospital, Cardiff. He served as a cardiology registrar at the Heath Hospital, affiliated with the University of Wales, and then worked as a senior registrar in Aberdeen at Forresterhill Hospital and Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. He later became a lecturer in the Cardiovascular Research Unit at the University of Edinburgh. Professor Dart has received specialist accreditation in General Medicine, Clinical Pharmacology, and Cardiovascular Medicine, and spent two years in the Department of Cardiology in Heidelberg, Germany, as a Royal Society European Exchange Fellow. He relocated to Melbourne in 1988 to take a position at Baker Medical Research Institute and has held significant roles including Acting Director and Director of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at The Alfred. His clinical interests encompass general cardiology, hyperlipidaemia, and cardiac risk factors, while his research focuses on hyperlipidaemia, vascular function, myocardial ischaemia, and hypertension. He has authored over 300 publications related to cardiac disease.
