Biography

Anthony David graduated in medicine from Glasgow University in 1980 and trained in neurology before entering psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital in London. He obtained a Master's degree in Cognitive Neuropsychology and served as an honorary consultant at the Maudsley from 1990 to 2018, being awarded a personal chair at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London in 1996. His academic responsibilities included Vice Dean for Academic Psychiatry at the IoPPN from 2013 to 2018. His research interests encompass a wide and diverse range, including schizophrenia and neuropsychiatry, medically unexplained syndromes, and neuroimaging—both structural and functional. He has a particular focus on the concept of insight in schizophrenia and its relation to treatment compliance and decision-making capacity. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and the Academy of Medical Sciences. He has been active in numerous psychological societies, serving as the President of the International Neuropsychiatric Association from 2022 to 2024. Anthony has authored 650 publications in peer-reviewed medical and scientific journals.
