Dr. Anthony Filippi is an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Programs at Texas A&M University. He is a remote-sensing geographic information-processing scientist with principal research interests in imaging spectroscopy, hyperspectral optical remote sensing, rivers, coastal oceans, and geographic information system (GIS)-based modeling spatial analysis. His research combines remote sensing with aquatic optics, GIScience, and machine learning. Dr. Filippi's current research focuses on the development of hyperspectral remote-sensing inversion algorithms to estimate water-column properties, bathymetry, and bottom optical properties from remote-sensor images acquired in coastal waters. He also addresses problems in the littoral ocean and conducts inquiries related to coastal margins, wetland mapping, and floodplain environments. Additionally, he is involved in terrestrial land-cover and vegetation investigations, agricultural studies, and monitoring hazardous/radiological waste sites using airborne satellite remote sensing. He is a faculty member of the Fluvial-GEOS Lab, a research group dedicated to studying riverine and floodplain issues using remote sensing and GIS.
