Biography

Anthony Gerbino is a historian specializing in early modern architecture with a focus on the intersections of architecture, science, and culture in 17th-century France and England. He earned his B.A. from the University of California at Santa Barbara, followed by an M.Phil. from the University of Cambridge and a Ph.D. from Columbia University. Gerbino has held teaching positions at prestigious institutions including Columbia University, Wesleyan University in Connecticut, and Vassar College in New York. His prior appointment was as a Scott Opler Fellow and Senior Research Fellow at Worcester College, University of Oxford. He served as the Lead Editor of the Architectural History journal for the Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain from 2017 to 2020. His research interests include the technical and mathematical backgrounds of early modern architects and engineers, urban history, and the cultural patronage of architecture. He has published works such as the monograph "François Blondel: Architecture, Erudition, Scientific Revolution" and has co-curated exhibitions exploring historical architectural practices. Currently, he is engaged in long-term projects examining early modern cartography and its relation to landscape and the cultural debates of the late 17th century.
