Anthony J. Harb is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of California, San Diego. His research interests lie at the intersection of sociolinguistics, linguistic anthropology, education, media, and ethnic studies, focusing on how discursive linguistic practices shape and are shaped by identity work. Harb's interdisciplinary research emphasizes the experiences of marginalized communities, examining how they use both face-to-face and mediated language to negotiate, resist, and restructure inequalities associated with gender, immigration status, and communicative modalities. His work has primarily explored the Mexican immigrant community in rural Minnesota and the role of Spanish-language community radio in constructing individual and collective identities. Additionally, he investigates raciolinguistic experiences within the Arab diaspora, particularly how English-Arabic news media frames and circulates discourse about disability and everyday life in Palestine. Harb has received recognition from the Mellon Foundation and will serve as a 2024 Concha Delgado Gaitán Presidential Fellow. Previously, he was involved in the CUNY Initiative on Immigration and Education, coordinating a teacher leader education project funded by the New York State Education Department.
