Anthony Kucernak (AK), Professor of Chemical Physics at Imperial College London, is an internationally recognized innovator in the field of electrochemistry. His research group focuses on developing new techniques and methods to probe and understand the electrochemical interface, with applications aimed at improving electrocatalysts, electrode structures, and technologies such as fuel cells, electrolysers, and redox flow batteries. His work spans fundamental science and practical applications in real-world systems. Kucernak has over 20 patent applications and currently holds twelve patents licensed to various companies. He is a co-founder of four start-up companies related to his research area and has served as a consultant to the UK government and other learned bodies on issues concerning electrochemical production of fuels and chemicals. From 2014 to 2019, he acted as Deputy Director of the ICL Energy Futures Lab, which addresses major challenges in the energy sector through six interconnected research themes including Low Carbon Cities, Sustainable Fuels, and Energy Infrastructure. Currently, he leads the polymer electrolyte fuel cell electrolyser theme of the £4M Hydrogen Fuel Cell Supergen Hub and has been involved in multiple recent collaborations and grants in the field.
