Biography

Anthony Leiserowitz is the Josh Ani-TomKat Professor of Climate Communication and Director of the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication (YPCCC). He is an internationally recognized expert in public beliefs about climate change, risk perceptions, behavioral responses, and the psychological, cultural, and political factors that shape these perspectives. Over his career, Leiserowitz has published more than 400 scientific articles, chapters, and reports, and has worked with leading organizations such as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, National Academy of Sciences, and the United Nations Development Program. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Friend of the Planet Award from the National Center for Science Education and the Stephen H. Schneider Award for Outstanding Climate Science Communication. In 2020, he was named the second-most influential climate scientist in the world by Reuters. His current research focuses on how different segments of the public understand and react to climate change risks and supports various mitigation and adaptation strategies. He is also involved in national surveys assessing Americans’ knowledge and attitudes towards climate change, as well as international studies of public opinion across multiple countries.
