Biography

Anthony Reder is a Professor at the University of Chicago with over 30 years of research interest in multiple sclerosis (MS). He has coauthored approximately 150 papers, abstracts, and presentations on various MS topics, including animal models of the disease. His primary research areas involve the interactions between the central nervous system and the immune system, and how alterations in immune responses can impact the treatment and management of MS. Reder leads an active laboratory that is studying immune disruptions in MS, including the mechanisms of action of interferon-beta, a widely-used therapeutic agent. His research has led to the discovery of a defect in the interferon signaling pathway in lymphocytes from patients with progressive forms of MS, translating into clinical responses to interferon therapy for these patients. Throughout his career, Reder has contributed to the development of numerous new treatments for MS, including biological therapies and various immunomodulatory drugs. He has trained several outstanding fellows in MS research and has been supported by grants from the National MS Society. Reder has been influential in advancing the understanding and treatment of MS.
