Biography

Anthony Rollett is the U.S. Steel Professor of Metallurgical Engineering in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. He has been a faculty member since 1995 and served as the head of the Materials Science and Engineering department for five years. Rollett became the Steel Professor in 2017 and was appointed University Professor in 2024. His research focuses on microstructural evolution and the relationship between microstructure and properties in three-dimensional (3D) printing of metals. He employs both experimental and simulation methods, addressing key aspects such as grain growth, texture anisotropy, and material strength. With over 320 peer-reviewed journal publications and an h-index exceeding 80, his contributions to the field are widely recognized. He is an ASM Fellow, a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (UK), and a TMS Fellow. Additionally, Rollett has been honored with the Cyril Stanley Smith Award and served as the Francqui Professor in 2020-2021. His collaborative work includes co-directing the Manufacturing Center and leading projects supported by NASA.
