Biography

Anthony Wagner is a professor in the Department of Psychology at Stanford University, where he specializes in cognitive neuroscience, particularly focusing on memory and cognitive/executive control in young and older adults. His research encompasses the mechanisms of encoding and retrieval, investigating the interactions between declarative and nondeclarative memory, as well as working memory. He has made significant contributions to understanding forms of cognitive control and neurocognitive aging, assessing various aspects of functional organization in the brain, including the prefrontal cortex, parietal cortex, and medial temporal lobe. Utilizing advanced technologies such as functional MRI, scalp and intracranial EEG, and transcranial magnetic stimulation, Wagner's work has shed light on complex cognitive processes. He also serves as the Deputy Director of the Stanford Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute and has held the position of Chair of the Department of Psychology. Wagner has been instrumental in directing the Stanford Memory Laboratory and continues to engage in both teaching and supervising doctoral dissertations.
