Dr. Anthony Webster

Biography

Anthony K. Webster is a Professor at the University of Texas at Austin in the Department of Anthropology. His research interests lie in linguistic anthropology, with a focus on anthropological linguistics, ethnopoetics, and the Southern Athabaskan languages, especially Navajo English. He has published extensively on various topics including translation, iconicity, sounds, and moral imagination. Webster has explored issues of language inequalities and graphic pluralism, and has contributed significantly to the study of literacies within Indigenous contexts. He has co-edited several notable anthologies, including the 'Diné Reader: Anthology of Navajo Literature', which won the American Book Award in 2022. His past publications include works on Navajo poetry and ethnopoetics that highlight the narratives and voices of Indigenous cultures. Websters's academic journey culminated with a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin, where he continues to inspire students in higher education.
