Biography

Antoine Coulombe joined the Faculty of Social Work as a full-time instructor on January 1st, 2019. His career in Social Work began in the late 1990s after obtaining a BSW from the University of Quebec in Chicoutimi and a MSW from the University of Quebec in Montreal. With over 12 years of experience, he has worked across various settings, including health care and non-profit organizations, addressing the needs of individuals, groups, and communities from diverse backgrounds. Notably, he has extensive experience working with youth, families, and marginalized communities, including LGBTQ+ individuals and those facing disabilities or mental health challenges. Coulombe's early career involved community organizing and developing supportive resources for LGBTQ+ youth in Quebec City, where he contributed to policies aimed at combating homophobia. He has also conducted research focusing on empowerment perspectives within LGBTQ+ communities. Prior to his position at UBC, he taught Social Work theory and practice at Marie-Victorin College for a decade. His interests include creating accessible and engaging learning environments.
