Antoine Payot is a pediatrician and neonatologist at CHU Sainte-Justine since 2004. He also serves as the director of the Clinical Ethics Office of the Faculty of Medicine. In addition to his clinical activities, he established and currently directs a second-cycle university training program, as well as a Master’s and Doctorate program in clinical ethics at the University of Montreal’s Faculty of Medicine. This innovative program is the first of its kind in Canada and among French-speaking countries, integrating theoretical training with the complex realities of maternal-fetal and pediatric medicine. This teaching and research program caters to clinicians from diverse backgrounds as well as students in the humanities. He also leads the mother-child clinical ethics unit at CHU Sainte-Justine, which supports clinicians and teams facing complex ethical situations such as transplants, prematurity, and prenatal diagnosis. His research interests include parental involvement in complex medical decision-making, narrative in clinical ethics, prenatal ethics, quality of life, and pediatric palliative care.
