Biography

Anton Jansson is an Associate Professor in History of Ideas at the University of Gothenburg. His research primarily focuses on the history of political thought and the interplay between religion and secularization, especially in relation to atheism and secularist ideas in Europe. He is currently working on a project titled 'Visions of Society and God: The History of Atheism in Sweden 1879-1968', which is financed by the Swedish Research Council. His PhD dissertation, completed in 2017, explored the intersection of political thought and theology during the German Vormärz period. He has held a postdoctoral position at Lund University, where he researched the role of humanistic knowledge in the Christian public sphere and voluntary education organizations in the labor movement. In addition to his academic pursuits, Jansson is involved in several scholarly networks, such as the International Society of Historians of Atheism, Secularism, and Humanism, and he contributes writings to local cultural journals.
