Anton Koellner is an Assistant Professor in Structural Mechanics in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London. He investigates structural instability phenomena using advanced analytical and numerical modeling applications for structures made of fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) composites and homogeneous materials. His research particularly focuses on the interaction between structural instability and material damage to enhance structural capabilities by exploiting instabilities for improved functionality and design performance. Koellner serves as the module coordinator for Composite Structures (taught to MSc and MEng students) and Dynamics of Structures (a third-year MEng module). He also lectures on Structural Mechanics 2. Koellner received his Habilitation in Structural Mechanics from TU Berlin in 2024 and holds a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, conferred with the grade summa cum laude, from TU Berlin (2017). His doctoral work was recognized with the Dr.-Klaus-Körper Prize from the International Association of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics in 2018. He earned his Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (MEng(Hons) with Class Honours) from the University of Auckland in 2012 and obtained a Bachelor’s degree from Chemnitz University of Technology in 2010.
