Biography

Anton Westman is an Associate Professor of Disaster Medicine and co-director of the Centre for Disaster Medicine at Umeå University. He holds a doctoral degree in Traumatology from Umeå University, completed in 2009, and has undergone postdoctoral studies in Aerospace Medicine from Karolinska Institutet from 2011 to 2018. Since 2019, he has been conducting research in disaster medicine, focusing on complex, inaccessible, and austere environments. In addition to his academic role, he divides his professional time with clinical duties as an Anaesthesiologist at Karolinska University Hospital Huddinge, participating in disaster preparedness. His research aims to prevent disasters by addressing situations where the available medical resources become insufficient due to high acute burdens, leading to quality compromises in healthcare. He has also been involved in publishing a medical study on mountain rescue slated for publication in February 2024.
