Biography

Antoni Borysik is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at King's College London with over 20 years of experience in developing applications for biomolecular characterization using mass spectrometry. He joined King's in 2014 after an industrial fellowship at the University of Oxford with Waters Corporation, where he developed methods to probe the solvent-free behavior of membrane and disordered proteins using traveling wave ion mobility and molecular dynamics simulations. Borysik obtained his PhD from the University of Leeds, where he pioneered methods to characterize the folding of amyloidogenic proteins with mass spectrometry. His research group focuses on using native mass spectrometry (MS), ion mobility MS, and hydrogen-deuterium exchange MS (HDX-MS) to study the conformations and dynamics of important biomolecules to understand their function. Current projects involve studying natively unfolded proteins involved in liquid-liquid phase separation and proteins implicated in protein deposition disorders. Borysik's group is also working on advanced computational techniques for HDX-MS to enhance quantitative high-resolution data analysis and is interested in methods for structural determination using mass spectrometry, including applications of artificial intelligence in HDX-MS research.
