Antonia Antoniou is a Professor at the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology, where she has been a faculty member since Fall 2008. She holds a Ph.D. from Iowa State University, conferred in 2006, and has also earned her M.S. and B.Sc. degrees from the same institution. Prior to joining the faculty, she worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Her research is primarily focused on Mechanics of Materials, including experimental mechanics, micro/nanomechanics, mechanochemical interactions, stress corrosion, and fracture mechanics. She is particularly interested in understanding the micromechanics of deformation in cellular materials and metallic glasses, employing both experimental measurements and numerical modeling techniques. Dr. Antoniou has received several prestigious awards in recognition of her contributions to research and teaching, including the NSF CAREER Award in 2014 and the Iowa State University Research Excellence Award in 2006, along with multiple teaching excellence awards.
