Biography

Antonio studied Chemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Cadiz and the Autonomous University of Madrid. He completed his undergraduate work with Gines Morata at the Center for Molecular Biology in Madrid. Antonio earned his PhD under Stephen Cohen at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) from 1998 to 2002 before undertaking a postdoctoral fellowship with Alex Schier at the Skirball Institute of NYU and Harvard from 2003 to 2006. He established his laboratory at Yale University in 2007, where he investigates the regulatory codes that shape gene expression during embryonic development. In addition to his research, he has served as the Director of Graduate Studies from 2012 to 2016 and the Chair of the Genetics Department from 2017 to 2023. His research interests include Autism Spectrum Disorder, Computational Biology, Developmental Biology, Gene Expression Regulation, Genomics, Microscopy, RNA Recognition Motif, and Systems Biology. He has published extensively and collaborated with various researchers in related fields.
