Dr. Antonio Hurtado

Biography

Antonio Hurtado holds the Chair of Hydrogen Nuclear Energy at the Technical University of Dresden. He has served as Pro-Rector for University Development since April 1, 2017. He represents TU Dresden as the scientific coordinator for the DESERTEC University Network and is the speaker for the Boysen TUD Research Training Group. His research focuses on nuclear energy technology, particularly its role in addressing the energy supply challenges posed by a rapidly growing global population. Hurtado emphasizes the need for safe and efficient use of available energy sources, with a historical perspective on nuclear energy dating back to the 1970s. He is committed to educating students for their professional lives and values traits such as curiosity, empathy, and punctuality in future engineers. His research interests include recycling, hydrogen, and the development of inherently safe nuclear fission reactors, as well as exploring transnational energy options. Hurtado believes in combining mechanical engineering with business psychology to create a comprehensive educational experience that prepares students for interdisciplinary challenges in energy research economics.
