Antonio Ortega received his Telecommunications Engineering degree from Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, Spain in 1989 and earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University, New York, NY in 1994. In 1994, he joined the Electrical Engineering department at the University of Southern California (USC) as a Professor. He has served as the Associate Chair and Director of the Signal Image Processing Institute at USC. As a Fellow of IEEE and a member of ACM APSIPA, he has been an active contributor to the engineering community, chairing the Image Multidimensional Signal Processing technical committee and participating on the Board of Governors of the IEEE Signal Processing Society. He has held various editorial positions, including Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Image Processing. Ortega's research interests include signal compression, representation, and communication analysis, with recent focus on distributed compression and graph signal processing. He has supervised over 40 PhD students and has published over 300 works in international conferences and journals, supported by notable agencies and companies such as NSF, NASA, and Google.
