Biography

Dr. Varvitsiotis received his PhD in Mathematical Optimization from the Dutch National Research Institute for Mathematics and Computer Science (CWI). Prior to joining SUTD, he held Research Fellow positions at the Centre for Quantum Technologies at the National University of Singapore within the Computer Science group and also within the Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Industrial and Systems Engineering. He holds an MSc degree in Theoretical Computer Science and a BSc in Applied and Theoretical Mathematics from the National University of Athens in Greece. Dr. Varvitsiotis' research primarily focuses on the fundamental aspects of continuous and discrete optimization, motivated by real-life applications in data science, machine learning, engineering, and quantum information. Some of his selected publications include works on optimization algorithms, graph isomorphisms in quantum non-signaling contexts, and properties of graphs related to matrix completion problems.
