Biography

Professor Antonis Antoniou studied Actuarial Science at the London School of Economics and Political Science, followed by an MPhil in Mathematical Statistics at the University of Cambridge, and completed his PhD in Genetic Epidemiology at Cambridge. He was awarded the CRUK Senior Cancer Research Fellowship in 2009 and was appointed Reader in 2013, becoming a Professor of Cancer Risk Prediction in 2017. In 2023, he was appointed director of the CRUK Cancer Data Driven Detection (CD3) initiative. His research focuses on improving cancer risk stratification through the development of novel multifactorial algorithms that leverage diverse sources of epidemiological, genomic, and clinical data. He is involved in identifying and characterizing novel cancer risk factors and developing user-friendly tools for personalized risk prediction in clinical practice. His ongoing projects include leading the CD3 initiative aimed at revolutionizing cancer risk understanding through data and the CanRisk tool designed for breast and ovarian cancer risk prediction. He has lectured and served in various academic roles, actively contributing to MPhil programs in Epidemiology and Population Health Sciences.
