Biography

Associate Professor Antony Cooper is the Head of both the Neurodegeneration & Neurogenomics Program in the Neuroscience Division at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. His primary interests involve identifying the underlying disease mechanisms of Parkinson's Disease and developing neuroprotective therapies aimed at slowing or stopping disease progression. He employs intensive neurogenomic approaches to identify peripheral biomarkers for presymptomatic diagnosis and efficacy assessment of new disease-modifying therapies. Additionally, he has conducted whole genome sequencing and transcriptional analysis on Bipolar Disorder pedigrees to provide insights into the basis of the disease.
