Dr. Antony Galione

Biography

Antony Galione is a Statutory Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Oxford and a Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator. He has held various academic positions including a Professorial Fellowship at Lady Margaret Hall and has contributed significantly to the understanding of calcium signaling in cells. Educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, he received his BA in Natural Sciences and a PhD in Zoology. His early research included working on calcium oscillations in cell activation under Sir Michael Berridge and a fellowship at Johns Hopkins University. His academic career at the University of Oxford began in 1991, and over the years he has held fellowships and leadership positions, including Head of the Department of Pharmacology from 2006 to 2015. Galione's work has earned him recognition, including the Novartis Prize from the British Pharmacological Society and election to the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Royal Society for his contributions to medical science.
