Biography

Antony Hodgson is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of British Columbia. He has made significant contributions to curriculum development, being a founding instructor of the MECH2 program, which earned him the ASME Curriculum Innovation Award in 2005, and the UBC Alfred Scow Award in 2007. He also received the Alan Blizzard Award in 2008 and the Killam Teaching Award in 2002. His teaching primarily focuses on mechanical medical device design. Hodgson co-chairs the NSERC Chair in Design Engineering program and developed a new interdisciplinary senior design course, successfully doubling enrollment in the New Venture Design program. Additionally, he designed the NSERC CREATE-funded Engineers Scrubs graduate training program. He is a registered Professional Engineer and an active member of the ASME and IEEE Computer-Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery Society, having served as President from 2014 to 2015. He also serves on the board of the Medical Device Development Centre. In 2017, he was honored with the Maurice E Mueller Award for Excellence in Computer Assisted Surgery, recognizing his career-long contributions to the field.
