Dr. Anu Realo

Biography

Anu Realo is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Warwick, specializing in personality and cross-cultural psychology. She holds part-time Research Professorship at Tallinn University and a Visiting Professorship at the University of Tartu, Estonia. Anu is the founder and head of the Warwick Wellbeing, Culture, Personality Research Group. Her research focuses on cultural individual variations in personality traits, subjective well-being, individualism-collectivism, and social capital. Anu has collaborated widely with researchers across disciplines and cultures, publishing numerous articles in high-quality, peer-reviewed international journals. She currently leads a major project on sustainable futures funded by the European Commission and Tallinn University. A member of Academia Europaea and the Estonian Academy of Sciences, she received the National Science Award of the Republic of Estonia in 2010 for her studies on personality stereotypes from a cross-cultural perspective, and she was awarded the Order of the White Star (IV Class) by the President of Estonia in 2016 for her outstanding contributions to the Republic. Anu has held numerous administrative roles at both national and international levels, previously serving as the President of the European Association of Personality Psychology and as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for the World Values Survey. Her work has been extensively covered by national and international media outlets, reflecting her active public engagement on research-related topics. Anu divides her time between the UK and Estonia and has a passion for coffee, travel, reading, the arts, and spending time outdoors.
