Biography

Anum Glasgow is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at Columbia University. She received her PhD in Bioengineering from UC Berkeley in 2015, where she worked on engineered bacterial protein secretion systems in the lab of Dr. Danielle Tullman-Ercek. Anum’s postdoctoral research was conducted in the lab of Dr. Tanja Kortemme at UC San Francisco, focusing on the development of chemically inducible dimerization systems and programmable cellular responses. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she co-led a team that rapidly developed a therapeutic receptor trap for treating SARS-CoV-2 infections. Anum’s research integrates experimental and computational approaches to investigate protein systems, their conformational changes, and interactions with biomolecules, with a particular emphasis on biotherapeutics development. Her research group employs computational protein design and high-throughput biophysical techniques to study biomolecular conformational changes, engineering proteins to modulate their interactions and responses. Anum aims to engineer multi-functional therapeutic proteins that respond to ligand binding and can induce programmed conformational changes for targeted therapeutic applications.
