Anver M. Emon is a leading scholar of Islamic law who works across multiple legal traditions. His research and teaching bring scholarly grounding to consultations with governments, NGOs, and legal advocacy groups around the world. Since Fall 2018, he has held a split appointment in the Department of History and the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto. Emon is the author of influential works including 'Islamic Natural Law Theories' and 'Religious Pluralism in Islamic Law: Dhimmis in the Empire of Law', and he has co-edited a significant anthology on Islamic Law and International Human Rights Law. In addition to his publishing achievements, Professor Emon is a recipient of several research grants, including the Guggenheim Fellowship in 2014 and the Kitty Newman Memorial Award in 2017. He is also the founding editor of the Middle East Law and Governance journal and has been appointed as the Director of the Institute of Islamic Studies at the University of Toronto.
