Anyao Liu studied Engineering at the Australian National University (ANU), graduating with First-class Honours in 2010. He completed his PhD in the field of solar photovoltaics (PV) at ANU in 2015. Liu has worked as a researcher in the solar PV group at ANU and between 2018 and 2022, he was awarded the ACAP Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. In 2023, he was a visiting scientist at Leibniz University Hannover and the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Germany. Currently, Liu is a Senior Research Fellow and lecturer in the School of Engineering at ANU. His research focuses on improving the performance and cost-effectiveness of solar photovoltaic devices, encompassing materials science, semiconductor physics, and process engineering. He is known for his research on understanding engineering impurities and defects in silicon materials for solar cells, having developed new techniques for impurity removal in silicon solar cells. Liu has also received the Ulrich Goesele Young Scientist Award for his pioneering work in the research field. He has been invited to speak at several leading international conferences and has collaborated with PV manufacturers on co-funded projects. Liu is currently supervising PhD students and has a keen interest in mentoring new students in his research area.
