Biography

Dr. Ao Li is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. He earned his PhD in 2023 and a Master’s degree in 2017, specializing in numerical modeling and computational heat transfer. His research focuses on computational fluid dynamics (CFD), battery thermal management systems, and deep learning applications in energy systems and flame retardants. Dr. Li's doctoral studies aimed to enhance the safety and efficiency of lithium-ion batteries, tackling critical challenges such as thermal management and fire prevention. His thesis introduced a novel framework that synergized CFD simulations with machine learning algorithms to optimize cooling performance and mitigate thermal risks in battery systems. He also led a project at UNSW Canberra’s School of Engineering & Technology that integrated deep learning techniques to detect battery thermal runaway early, contributing significantly to predictive safety analytics. Currently, Dr. Li is engaged in a battery recycling initiative, exploring sustainable lifecycle solutions for energy storage technologies.
